Have a Game of Thrones Thanksgiving

So maybe that’s not such a good idea, considering that everyone dies in the series anyway. Still, if we totally overlook that fact, a Game of Thrones Thanksgiving can be fun. It may be too late to do that for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner, but then you’ll always have an awesome excuse to have another Thanksgiving party with friends who won’t shy away from the idea of eating and drinking like Robert Baratheon. ((Who is dead anyway. Spoiler? If you didn’t know this fact by now, then you might as well give up.))

The second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is still far away, but HBO is not sitting on its laurels thanks to a successful first season. They continue to send out “reminders” every now and then that Game of Thrones is coming back and probably coming back in a grander manner than we can imagine. (The first season finale is rather hard to beat, though.)

In keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving, the TV network has released a Thanksgiving dinner menu that would keep all the gluttons of Westeros happy for a while. Well, maybe a night. Here’s a sneak peek.

The Old Bear's Hot Spiced Wine

The Old Bear's Hot Spiced Wine

The Old Bear = Lord Commander Jeor Mormont; the 997th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
He is known to be very particular about his hot spiced wine, and rightly so. With how cold it is on the Wall, his ancient bones need all the warmth that he can get.

Pigeon Pie Game of Thrones

Pigeon Pie

I don’t know about you, but I just can’t wrap my head around the idea of eating pigeon. I have no special love for these birds, but I do not mind them either. In any case, the idea of eating pigeon just doesn’t sit well with me. Good thing I am not a citizen of Westeros, as pigeon pie seems to be a staple during occasions.

HBO’s complete Game of Thrones Thanksgiving menu:

  • The Old Bear’s Hot Spiced Wine
  • Cersei’s Creamy Chestnut Soup (I can’t help but admire and detest Cersei at the same time, but this soup sounds creamiliciously good!)
  • Medieval Spiced Squash
  • Hen Stuffed Chestnuts and Prunes
  • Pigeon Pie

The recipes are taken from this wonderful blog called Inn at the Crossroads, which is dedicated to recreating food from The Game of Thrones. Even if you are not doing a Game of Thrones Thanksgiving dinner, you will find tons of recipes in the blog. It’s crazy good, trust me.
