Moving on

One step at a time

I have come to the conclusion that the phrase “moving on” and its derivatives are some of the most overly used phrases in this life. That’s a clear testament to how life is. Things are in a constant state of flux. It is only a question of how you deal with it.

Moving on can mean so many things. Each person will have his own interpretation. However, it doesn’t really matter what specific issue/s you are dealing with. I think that at the end of the day, there are two things that count.

  1. Your realizations. What have you learned from your circumstances?
  2. Your plan. Are you willing to change for the better? What specific changes are you making?

We had proclaimed 2011 to be our year. For the most part, it was. As the end of 2011 draws near, I have again faced the need to learn and realize certain things in my life. I am facing a new plan. I am moving on.
Maybe not in the way some would think. Maybe not in the way I should. But I am definitely getting back on my feet, and I am sure that somewhere down the road, I will find myself standing with my back straight, head held up high again. Feeling happy like I was in the past year, and not feeling as if I had lost my way; as if I were anchorless.
In the meantime, I do what I must. There’s this passage I keep telling myself.
“First do what is necessary, then do what is possible. Pretty soon, you will be doing the impossible.”

Lessons Learned

Don’t beat yourself up over your mistakes.

Oh, I have made plenty in the past year. And yes, I have beaten myself up hard about them. There is no point in doing that, though. The more I am harsh with myself, the more depressed I get. The more difficult I find it to make progress.

Respect.

I am thankful for my parents who raised me well. They taught me how to respect others even if they do not return the gesture. Somewhere along the way, my own personality has sometimes led me to forgetting the different ways you show respect. Today, I find myself learning once again that you can show respect by not insisting on your own desires and wants. And that you have to show yourself respect, and leave it up to others how they want to deal with you.

Look forward.

Every single moment, we just have to look forward. This site is one of those things I am doing to look forward. I still have hope that what I want will come to pass. I cannot deny that. However, it is useless to keep looking back at what was. Instead, each day, each hour, I decide to look forward and do things to move forward.

In everything you do, give it your all. No questions asked.

This way, at the end of the day, you can say that you did everything that you could. Anything that you engage yourself in, go in with an open heart, an open mind, and give it all you’ve got.

With these things in mind, I move on. One step at a time.

For good measure, here’s a Rascal Flatts song which I find myself listening to a lot these days.
