Going to the beach was not at the top of my list when I was thinking of my trip to LA. But my friend knew me all too well — my love for beaches applies all the time, anywhere I may be.
So, when she texted me a few days before I left home to “Bring your swimsuit,” I did not hesitate. Here’s a secret: I have a thing for swimsuits. While I only really need one or two — three max — I like having a bunch on hand. After all, when the beach calls, you can’t ignore it.
Thing is, it has been torture finding suits that fit me at home. I’m bigger than the norm, and the usual cuts just don’t, well, cut it. Now I’m in the US, I am enjoying the options, especially online, where the choices are endless. I’m particularly enamored with Lime Ricki — tankini swimsuit, halter top, one-piece, name it, they have it! And in my size!!
Even if I highly doubt I’ll be visiting a beach in the next few months — I’d be insane in this weather! — I know I will have some new babies I’m bringing home.
Anyhow, back to the beaches of LA…
I really wasn’t thinking beaches. Still, I loved that we got to spend time on the sand, under the sun. No way was I getting in the water, but the smell, the warmth, and the company was heaven.
I had only previously heard of these names…Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Long Beach…
Brunch at a homey cafe along Manhattan Beach – pancakes and bacon, of course!
And then just lounging on Redondo Beach…with a couple of beers and lovely conversation. I even got to spot a pod of dolphins from the shore! It was amazing!
Pity I wasn’t able to take photos of the dolphins, but I have to say that while they have nothing on our pristine beaches back home, the LA beaches do have something going for them.
